In the 1970’s and 1980’s we saw the rise of the “quality” movement in the trend of products, structure, and business models. In the 1980’s and 1990’s the IT movement became the industry trend. Now there is a “megatrend”, a transformative change in the competitive horizon. This megatrend is the “Sustainability Imperative.” Companies that understand this megatrend will be the ultimate benefactors of the next wave of wealth in the ever changing economy.
David A Lubin and Daniel C Esty recently contributed their insightful research to Harvard Business Review regarding the fueling of this megatrend. David A. Lubin is the chairman of the Sustainability Network, an Esty Environmental Partners service in partnership with IBM, and cofounder of the Palladium Group. Daniel C. Esty is the Hillhouse Professor of Environmental Law and Policy at Yale University and the chairman of Esty Environmental Partners.
As you are very well aware, Jef Welch, and the Sustained Prosperity System of training leaders is based on “system” oriented strategy (where so many scams out there are based on just getting lucky). This article in the May 2010 issue of Harvard Business Review, “The Sustainability Imperative,” gives powerful insight and directive, and indirectly endorses the systematic strategies of the Sustained Prosperity System. Through strategy development and building a sustainability performance system, those with the discipline to follow a well defined system, will experience greater success than those who “wing it” or “shoot from the hip.” Winners have a “plan.”
The last portion of this article is divided into four types of people: 1) Losers 2) Defenders 3) Dreamers and 4) Winners………….Trust me….you will want to be in the “Winners” category. Don’t lose out due to your inability to recognize the true path to the top. Quit defending yourself as if what you are doing is working when it’s not. Dreaming is fun but it doesn’t pay the bills unless you finally turn those dreams into a tangible plan to fulfill them. The ultimate goal is to be a “Winner” and the only way to win is ultimately to reach your goal or to achieve that which you have strategized to accomplish.
This next megatrend is something Jef Welch has been coaching for years. Sustainable wealth can only be achieved through not only achieving wealth, but to also to maintain it.
May prosperity and happiness follow you as you engage your life in the Sustained Prosperity System of training for leaders.
